Marie Curie Cancer Care provides free nursing care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes. Our nurses work day and night ensuring patients can spend their final days where they want to be most – in familiar surrounding, close to family, friends and neighbours.

Gavin Bent took up running after his mum was supported by Marie Curie Nurses at home, he said:

"I used to be a professional footballer – I used to play for Leicester City until I was 17. Then mum got ill with Ovarian cancer and I had an injury. Everything happened at the same time and the dream fell apart.

At first, Mum fought the cancer and it went away. After about a year it came back. When it returned the second time it struck very quickly. That’s when Marie Curie Nurses came to help.

The nurses made life as comfortable as possible for my mum. Mum wanted to be at home as much as possible – especially towards the end.

The nurses really went the extra mile. They went above and beyond. You don’t realise how far they go for people until you’re in that situation. 

We also have nine hospices around the UK. The hospices provide free nursing care for both in-patients and day patients. The care can range from specialised treatments and therapies to counselling for families of patients.

We want to help more people like Gavin. There are so many more patients and families affected by terminal illnesses who need our help – the people on your doorstep and in your local area.
